February 7, 2020

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College will hold its sixth annual Career and Technical Education Letter of Intent Signing Day on Feb. 17 at Pima Community College West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road.

Signing Day, which began in 2014 at Washburn Tech, is a celebration of career and technical education. The event honors students who are entering into a technical field and emphasizes the importance of their career choices.

What:  National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day

When:  9:30 a.m., Feb. 17, 202

Who:  Media outlets are welcomed to attend. We encourage reporters to do interviews with students before the ceremony starts or after it is complete.

Where:  Aztec Gymnasium, Pima Community College West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road

Students from area high schools, as well as new students at Pima Community College will sign their national college letters of intent, similar to a “signing day” for athletes, and don a Pima baseball cap, committing to completing a program at Pima.

“National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day made me realize the value and importance of completing a career-technical program,” said Pima graduate Angel Rodriguez, who will address the students participating in this year’s ceremony.

Rodriguez earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Technology in 2019. He is an aircraft mechanic at Rampart Aviation and is currently working towards his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science degree in Aviation Science at Eastern New Mexico University.

Mayor Regina Romero, a strong advocate for education, will also address the students and commend them for their decisions to learn skills that lead to a strong career.

Representatives from Snap-on, Starrett, Trane, TuSimple, Royal Automotive and others will also join the students to help validate their decisions to complete a technical degree at Pima.

This national event is one of many going on around the country and is conducted in conjunction with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3). NC3 works with industry and education partners to promote and support industry-driven and industry-recognized certifications in numerous technical fields.
