Interim Chancellor's Message: 2023 United Way Campaign
Pima Community College’s longtime support of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s (UWTSA) annual campaign is a testament to our commitment to a Culture of Caring that enhances the community’s economic and cultural vitality.
The past few years have reinforced our faith in the resilience, kindness and ingenuity of our neighbors. They also have exposed the sad reality that so many of our neighbors are hurting in the face of unprecedented challenges. Families are wondering if they’ll keep their homes, and how they’ll feed their children.
As the county’s community college, Pima can and should help our community shake off the yoke of poverty and disadvantage. As co-chair of the Cradle to Career Leadership Council, I can attest that UWTSA shares our commitment to building education, improving financial stability of families, and creating healthy communities.
This is an exciting time for Tucson and United Way, beginning with the ongoing Months of Caring campaign. On Oct. 12, we will have our Months of Caring campaign kickoff and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the District Office Fountain Area. In order to attend, pledge a minimum of $1 per pay period ($26) through payroll deduction by Oct. 10. For Days of Caring, Pima employees can volunteer with Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern Arizona Oct. 21, loading essential supplies for distribution to families who have a child with cancer. Throughout October, employees also can volunteer to craft Pima Love Notes for people in need. In addition, Virtual Impact Tours will be held on Oct. 4, Nov. 6 and Nov. 28. Learn about Oct. 4’s tour of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona.
The College offers a payroll deduction plan for your convenience. You can designate where you want your donation to go, including to Pima Foundation, which supports the College and provides scholarships to students. A Campaign Pledge Form is available.
If you are donating for the first time, thank you for joining in support of Tucson’s diverse communities. If you are a returning donor, your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.
More than ever, together, we can improve the lives of those who need our help the most.
Dolores Durán-Cerda, Ph.D.
