@PimaNews Summer Schedule
The final summer edition of @PimaNews is on Aug. 5. The first issue of fall is Aug. 19. Please send announcements and news items – 75 words or fewer ─ to pimanews@pima.edu by noon on Monday. Check any links before sending.

All College Day Features Pima Talent; HLC President Is Keynote
The College kicks off the Fall semester with 2021 Virtual All College Day on Aug. 13 on the PCCTV STREAM YouTube channel.

Higher Learning Commission President Barbara Gellman-Danley, Ph.D., is the keynote speaker. This year’s event includes a Pima’s Got Talent segment.

To request an ADA accommodation, contact the Employee Service Center, ada-esc@pima.edu.

The College will send emails with more details on All College Day, including a opportunities to submit questions to the keynote, as well as pick up a swag bag and drop off donations to Pima’s Aztec Resource Centers – all in one trip.

Environmental Health and Safety Shares Reminders for Fall
The College’s Environmental Health and Safety office offers these reminders as the start of the fall semester approaches:

  • Accidents, injuries, illnesses and near-miss incidents must be reported to EHS within 24 hours or as soon as possible, using the Accident/Injury Report on MyPima.
  • Employees should report safety hazards or concerns through the Confidential/Hazard Report on MyPima.  
  • Custodial Services Periodic Floor Care at Downtown Campus is July 22 to Aug. 23. Please remove small moveable items from the floor during the scheduled services in your areas.

2021 Teaching Strategies Workshop on Aug. 7
Register now for the 2021 Teaching Strategies Workshop to be held 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 7, at the Downtown Campus Amethyst Room and virtually. Select either in-person or virtual – not both modalities.

Pima Holds First Safety Slogan Competition
In recognition of the Pima employees’ hard work and strong commitment to safety this year, the College’s Environmental Health and Safety office is sponsoring its first Departmental Safety Slogan competition as part of OSHA Safe + Sound Week Aug. 9-15.

Employees are invited to create a slogan that highlights the culture of safety. A committee will select the winning slogan and EHS will use it to energize Pima’s culture of safety. The winning slogan must be short (three to seven words), catchy, easy to understand and appeal to a wide audience. Submission details will be announced.

Employee Volunteers Assemble Nearly 500 Cleaning Caddies
The College’s Environmental Health and Safety office sincerely appreciates that Safety Committee and Emergency Management and Disaster Recovery Group members assembled 447 Classroom Cleaning Caddies over the past two weeks. Volunteers at the 29th Street Coalition Center were to assemble 20 more caddies this week.

Unteaching & Unlearning Summit Is Sept. 7-10
The Faculty Senate Systemic Justice Action Committee and the Teaching and Learning Center are coordinating the first-ever Virtual All-College Unteaching & Unlearning Summit for Sept. 7-10. The goal of the summit, which is open to all College employees, is to bring together people to listen, share, collaborate, heal, feel, think, process, understand and work to solve problems. Any employee may submit a summit proposal using this Unteaching & Unlearning Summit Call for Proposals form.

New Group Fitness Classes for Fall Provide Variety
Mix, match and mingle your fitness classes this fall. Sign up for FAW100F1 (CRN 13089) or FAW100F2 (CRN 13090) for open access to a wide variety of group fitness classes listed under each CRN, such as yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, strength and flexibility, Zumba, boot camp and indoor cycling. The way it works is if you sign up for FAW100F1, a one-unit class, you will have access to two hours of group fitness classes of your choice per week. Sign up for FAW100F2, a two-unit class, and have access to four hours of group fitness classes each week. In-person and virtual options are available. Classes are open to employees, Pima students and the public.

Some FAW classes still will be offered separately – self-defense, belly dancing, running, golf, etc. Continue to use FAW110F1 (CRN 10928) and FAW110F2 (CRN 10929) for access to the fitness centers. Contact Nancy Gamboian, FSS Department Head with any questions.

Payouts for Annual Leave Offered
College employees who have not been able to use annual leave, do not want to lose accrued hours or who need funds to cover additional expenses may request a payout of annual leave – in one- or two-week increments – through the end of December. To request this payout, sign in to MyPima > Employee Service Center > Benefits and select “Annual Leave Payout Request.” Employees must have completed their new hire probationary period. If you have questions, contact the Employee Service Center.

Pima Employment Opportunities for Internal Candidates
Pima values its employees and wants them to advance their careers at the College. That is why some positions are open only to internal candidates. To view, go to MyPima > Employees > @Work > MyCareerCenter > View Internal Internal Career Site > Search. Part-time staff and adjunct faculty, refer to AP 2.02.01 sections 1.2.3 and 1.2.4 for eligibility.

Free Public Transit Extended Through Dec. 31
Fares on Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van, Sun On Demand and Sun Shuttle will remain free through Dec. 31. The City of Tucson pulled ride fees in March of 2020 due to the pandemic.
