Minimum Qualifications for Program Eligibility

Potential aviation maintenance students must

• attend an Aviation Technology Program information session.
  
• demonstrate college skill levels in reading. NDT courses have a reading prerequisite: REA 091 (or higher) or placement into REA 112. An official college transcript displaying the completion of reading classes at or beyond these levels may be used in place of the assessment to verify skill level.
  
• complete STU 100 - College Success and Career Planning with a grade of C or better.
  
• submit a negative alcohol and drug screening test.
  
• submit an Aviation Technology Program application.

Physical Requirements

Throughout the course of all of the trainings in Pima's Aviation Technology Program occasional exposure to toxic chemicals and particulate matter may occur, which is typical in the aviation industry. Training on personal protection equipment (PPE) wear and use is mandatory. Each student is personally responsible for the proper wear and usage of PPE.

The Aviation Technology Program has physical requirements to help ensure that students complete the coursework as specified by the industry and meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements. Program physical requirements are as follows:

• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to work in small, confined areas
• Ability to work kneeling, bending and sitting
• Ability to climb stairs and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work at heights approaching 60 feet
• Ability to work in high noise environments, wearing ear protection
• Ability to work wearing eye protection
• Ability to work while wearing a respirator mask
