Pima Fashion Marks 20th Runway Show with “Elements of Fashion,” May 16
Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College Fashion Design Program presents its annual spring runway show, “Elements of Fashion.” Now in its 20th year, this milestone event is May 16 at the West Campus Proscenium Theatre. The evening begins at 5 p.m., with a VIP Reception, followed by the runway show at 7.
Leading this year’s production are Fashion Design Department Lead Faculty Jessica Peel-Scott and Fashion Show Director Dulce Douglas. Together, they combine fresh leadership with a shared commitment to student success. Peel-Scott joins Pima with an extensive professional background in costume design, bringing a refined eye for storytelling, construction and theatricality to the runway. Douglas, a Pima Fashion Design alumna, comes full circle as director, drawing from her own experience in the program to mentor and elevate the next generation of designers.
Inspired by the five traditional elements: fire, water, wood, metal and earth, the show draws on Chinese cultural symbolism to shape its visual and conceptual framework. Select student pieces draw inspiration from the five elements, influencing color, texture, movement and form. To create an immersive experience, the evening features a special performance by The Tucson Chinese Cultural Center’s Lion Dance Troupe, bringing the spirit of the theme to life.
Led by Peel-Scott and Douglas, “Elements of Fashion” features work from Pima’s emerging student designers alongside featured pieces from faculty and alumni. This year’s runway focuses on the balance between technical craftsmanship and design.
Rooted in the program’s continued commitment to sustainability, the show features innovative upcycled designs created in partnership with Goodwill of Southern Arizona. This collaboration is in its ninth year of challenging students to rethink materials and design with environmental impact in mind.
The Proscenium Theatre will be transformed into a dynamic fashion environment where culture, creativity and craftsmanship take center stage. Guests can expect an unforgettable evening that celebrates 20 years of fashion at Pima while showcasing the fresh perspectives of its next generation of designers.
Proceeds from the event support student achievement awards and ongoing program development.
