Pima Theater Presents Pulitzer Prize-winning Play “Fairview,” April 23

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College Theater program presents “Fairview,” the 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Jackie Sibblies Drury, running April 23-May 3. This daring and thought-provoking production is directed by guest director Esther Almazán, with guest assistant director and dramaturg Tanisha Ray.

At first glance, “Fairview” seems to be a familiar family dramedy centered on the Frasier family as they prepare for a birthday celebration. However, the play quickly evolves into something far more complex and provocative. Through bold theatrical choices and unexpected shifts in perspective, Drury’s genre-defying script examines race, privilege and the “white gaze” in both theater and society. The result is a powerful theatrical experience that invites audiences to reconsider how stories are told and who gets to tell them.

Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “Fairview” has been widely recognized for its innovative structure and its ability to spark meaningful dialogue about representation and power in contemporary storytelling.

Guest director Almazán and assistant director/dramaturg Ray join the production team for this special engagement, bringing fresh perspectives while guiding Pima Theater students through the play’s challenging and inventive form.
