Pima Dance Presents "Flex": A Diverse Showcase of Original Choreography, Dec. 5 & 6
Tucson, Arizona – Pima Dance will electrify audiences with “Flex,” a dynamic performance showcase featuring original works by students, faculty and guest choreographers, on December 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. in Pima Community College’s Proscenium Theatre.
Directed by new dance lead Julie Andrews, M.F.A., "Flex" highlights the breadth of dance genres offered at the College, including jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, ballet and folklórico.
Highlights of the Program
- Faculty Debuts: Julie Andrews presents her Jazz Contemporary piece, "Trending," exploring timelines and trends. Elena Hernandez, M.A., debuts with "Alfajor," a vibrant folklórico piece celebrating the lively fiesta atmosphere of Colima, Mexico.
- Contemporary & Collaboration: Faculty choreographer Claire Hancock, M.F.A., offers three diverse works: "Corrido," a collaboration with composer Hadley Griffin inspired by visual arts; the large ensemble piece "Missed Connections Despite" set to music by Vincent Calianno; and the contemporary ballet, "The Scarlet Woman."
- Guest & Student Works: Guest choreographer Marquez Johnson, Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona, returns with the energetic hip-hop piece, "Move Somethin'." The program also features Mickey Nugent’s entertaining showgirl routine, "Top Table," and original works by students Ronnel Dimmick and Maria Jose Rojo.
