'The Skin We Live In’ Showcases International and Local Artists in Tucson, Oct. 27

Tucson, Arizona – The Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery at Pima Community College presents “The Skin We Live In,” a group exhibition that examines the human body as a surface that carries identity, memory and transformation. Featuring more than 30 artists working across painting, photography, prints and drawing, the exhibition highlights the many ways in which human anatomy can be studied, reimagined and expressed.
The exhibition highlights guest artists Miguel Casco (Mexico City) and Ramón Sanmiquel (Spain-Oaxaca, Mexico):

  • Miguel Casco, a visual artist, cultural manager and museographer, examines how digital technologies and media shape intimacy and social connection. He holds a degree in Plastic Arts and a master’s degree in Information Design from Universidad de las Américas Puebla. His work has been shown in Mexico, the U.S., and Germany. He currently serves as deputy director of the Museum of Foreign Affairs in Mexico City and is the founder of two independent visual arts projects, Atelier Mesones and Salón Mesones.
  • Ramón Sanmiquel was born in Barcelona and originally trained as a physician, but now devotes himself to painting and drawing. His delicate yet emotionally charged works focus on women of prostitution and are regularly exhibited at the Manuel Díaz Gallery in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Selections from the collections of Dan Leach, Douglas Nielsen, and Julia and David Andres also are included, featuring works by Bailey Doogan, Craig Cully, Joel-Peter Witkin, and Gérard Beringer. Additional contributions from George Strasburger, Shen Wen and others broaden the conversation around the human form and lived experience. A highlight of the exhibition is “Young Man” Oil on canvas by Daniel Sprick, from the collection of Dan Leach.

This exhibition is made possible through the vision and generosity of collectors Douglas R. Nielsen, Dan Leach, Diane Dale, and Julia and David Andres, as well as independent artists whose distinctive works reflect a shared commitment to exploring the body in all its complexity.
