PCC Business Students Win First and Second Place at 2025 Arizona Community College Excellence (ACCE) Case Competition

Tucson, AZ - Pima Community College (PCC) proudly announces a landmark achievement at the 2025 Arizona Community College Excellence (ACCE) Case Competition, where PCC business students claimed both first and second place honors. The statewide competition, hosted by the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management on April 4, featured nine teams from institutions including three teams from Arizona Western College, one team from Scottsdale Community College, and five teams from PCC.

This outstanding performance continues PCC’s tradition of excellence at the ACCE Case Competition. Over the past decade, PCC teams have earned seven first-place finishes, three second-place, and two third-place awards. The PCC students who won first place, Shaley Olivarria, Juan Garcia, Isaac Sabala, Alex Paige and Lauro Acuna will receive a $500 scholarship to continue their education at the University of Arizona.

“Our team’s journey leading up to the ACCE Case Competition was filled with hard work, collaboration, and determination,” PCC Senior and first place winner, Shaley Olivarria said. “PCC provided incredible support through faculty mentorship and real-world business preparation, which gave us the confidence and skills to succeed together. Winning first place was a rewarding reflection of everything we accomplished as a team and everything we’ve learned at PCC.”

The success of the event is a testament to the dedication of five Pima Community College Business Department faculty members: Greg Watson, Javier Pedroza, Daniel Kane, Judd Curtis, and Gory Pearson, each of whom provided leadership and mentorship to a student team in preparation for the competition. Special recognition is extended to Jane Hall for her exceptional coordination in organizing and assembling the teams.

In celebration of this achievement, PCC will host a recognition ceremony on May 7, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Art Gallery (2nd floor of the CC Building) Downtown Campus, with attendance from college leadership, including the PCC Chancellor, Dr. Jeffrey Nasse.
