Tucson, AZ -- The 4th Annual Raquel Rubio Goldsmith Lecture in Ethnic, Gender & Transborder Studies features 2014 National Humanities Medalist Dr. Vicki Ruíz.
Ruíz is Distinguished Professor Emerita of History and Chicano/Latino Studies, University of California, Irvine. She is a pioneer in Mexican American/Chicanx history. Ruíz was awarded the 2014 National Medal in the Humanities by President Barack Obama.

Ruíz also is the featured speaker at a Scholarship Endowment Fundraiser Luncheon for Mexican American Studies Students:

Dr. Ruíz is an interdisciplinary, intersectional scholar whose work crosses the boundaries of History, Chicano/Latino Studies, Gender & Women's Studies, and Border Studies. These qualities reflect the vision and direction of Pima’s Ethnic, Gender & Transborder Studies/Sociology Department and aligns with the disciplines Pima offers. Her talk addresses matters of belonging in the national imaginary at a time when the legitimacy of Latinas/os, and Mexican Americans particularly, is being challenged, even violently, and in the highest echelons of government. Dr. Ruíz will be delivering a message of inclusion, struggle and pride rooted in historical evidence and the imperative of social justice.
