50 High Schoolers Graduate from First Responder Academy

Tucson, AZ – Fifty high school youth will graduate from the First Responder Academy, a collaboration of Pima Prevention Partnership, Pima County Arizona@Work, and Pima Community College that brings together Tucson-area high school youth to learn about careers in law enforcement, emergency medical services and law.

• When: July 3, 10:30 a.m.
• Where: Pima Community College District Office Community Room (C-105), 4905 E. Broadway Blvd.

The program, with funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, recruits high school juniors and seniors who were less likely to see first responder careers as an option. 

By the end of the month-long, half-day academy, youth earned certifications in Basic First Aid, CPR, and OSHA 10 workplace safety and had earned one college credit from Pima. They built relationships with professionals working in the field and became familiar with first responder equipment. 

In addition, students said they were clearer on their potential career path and that their view of law enforcement had changed for the better.
