15 Pima CTD Practical Nurse grads honored May 16

May 15, 2019

Tucson, AZ – On Thursday, Pima will celebrate 15 students completing Center for Training and Development Practical Nursing training.

What: Center for Training and Development’s Practical Nurse Pinning Ceremony

When: 4 p.m., May 16, 2019

Where: Community Room, Pima’s Desert Vista Campus, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz [map]

Details: By invitation; media welcome

Info: 520-206-5100

The ceremony is highlighted by family and loved ones joining each student on stage, with one fastening a nursing pin to the student’s top. The traditional nursing pin identifies the student’s nursing school and is presented to each newly graduated nurse as a symbolic welcome into the profession. The ceremony will conclude with the students participating in a candle-lighting ritual and reciting of the Nightingale Pledge.

CTD has five Practical Nursing cohorts complete training annually. Each student must complete 1,350 “clock-hours” of training. The graduates next must pass the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse (NCLEX®-PN) to become Licensed Practical Nurses.

LPNs work in such healthcare settings as hospitals, physicians’ offices and outpatient clinics, as well as in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities.

Nursing is one of the fastest growing professions in Arizona and the U.S. According to projectionscentral.com, which is supported by the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, Office of Employment Projections, the number of LPNs in the state will increase 32.2 percent from 2016 to 2026, nearly three times the estimated 12 percent national growth projected in that period. In addition, the Tucson metro area’s median salary for LPNs is $49,840, better than the national median salary of $45,710.

CTD offers certificate programs based on hours of successfully completed skills training rather than credits. It is based at PCC Desert Vista Campus, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz. Other healthcare trainings are Nursing Assistant and Surgical Technologist.
