“This is one of my proudest moments in my 14 years of affiliation with the Respiratory Therapy Program at PCC!” said Respiratory Care Program Director Jeffrey Miller, BAS, RRT.

A highlight of the conference is the Student Sputum Bowl, a two-round, head-to-head competition testing the professional knowledge of each four-member team. Arizona State Board of Respiratory Care members will pose questions and the first team to “buzz in” and correctly answer is awarded points. Pima Class of 2019 team members are Qualon Darby, Douglas (DJ) Lewis, Aubrie Cox and James Tith. The rounds start at 11:45 a.m. and 2:25 p.m., respectively.

Also, 2018 Pima graduate Matthew Maiden, now a full-time Respiratory Therapist at Tucson Medical Center, is one of two presenters in the Success Is a Journey, Not a Destination – Past Student Panel for students. It begins at 3:40 p.m.

Nearly 200 students from Pima and various respiratory care training programs around the state will be attending, including: GateWay Community College, Pima Medical Institute (Tucson and Mesa schools) and Carrington College (Phoenix).

Miller is leaving Pima as of April 5 to be Respiratory Therapy Manager at TMC. Russell Schmidt is taking over Pima’s program.
