Civil Rights Pioneer Bernard LaFayette Jr. Featured March 14

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College’s Department of Ethnic, Gender and Transborder Studies, in partnership with the College’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, joins the Culture of Peace Alliance and the Center for Community Dialogue and Training to host a panel and dialogue circles featuring renowned civil rights leader Bernard LaFayette, Jr. on March 14.

LaFayette was National Program Administrator for Martin Luther King Jr. and a co-founder of the Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee. He has dedicated his life to carrying out King’s final instructions to him on the evening before King’s assassination to “institutionalize and internationalize nonviolence.”
The “Kingian Nonviolence, Border Justice & Immigrant Rights” panel will include representatives of indigenous peoples, youth activism, faith- and community-based organizations, and educational institutions. The panel presentation will be followed by dialogue circles, involving all participants, to focus on border justice, immigrant rights and Kingian Nonviolence.
