Career and Technical Education Letter of Intent Signing Day, Feb. 14

February 12, 2019

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College is hosting its fifth annual Career and Technical Education Letter of Intent Signing Day on Feb. 14 to honor students entering a technical field at the College.

  • What: National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day
  • When: 10 a.m., Feb. 14, 2019
  • Who: Media outlets are welcomed to attend. We encourage reporters to do interviews with students before the ceremony starts or after it is complete.
  • Where: Aztec Gymnasium, Pima Community College West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road

A record number of students from area high schools, as well as new students at PCC will sign their national college letters of intent, similar to a “signing day” for athletes, and don a PCC baseball cap.

Sunnyside High School participant Ricardo Lopez will sign a letter of intent to enroll in the College’s engineering program. He plans to find work within the construction industry and transfer to the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Desert View High School student Maria Villegas, who wants to design airplane parts, said she is committed to continuing her postsecondary education at Pima because she “will get a career-focused education and save money.”

Representatives of Mopar, Banner University Medical Center, Tucson Airport Authority, Raytheon, Southwest Gas and others will join the students to help validate their decisions to learn skills that lead to a strong career.

This national event is one of many going on around the country and is conducted in conjunction with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3). NC3 works with industry and education partners to promote and support industry-driven and industry-recognized certifications in numerous technical fields.
