Message from the Chancellor: COVID-19 Memorial
Dear Colleagues,
Many of you have experienced the most tragic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the loss of family members and dear friends. Pima Community College recently lost two of our own: Michael Hicks, a long-time adjunct instructor for Information Technology, and Carlos Cocio, who was a College Readiness Instructor for the Health Professions Opportunity Grant (HPOG) program and served in various teaching roles before that.
Today are two special moments to honor and remember all. Tucson has accepted the Presidential Inauguration Committee’s invitation to participate in a national bell ringing at 3:30 p.m. Tucson time and in a candle lighting at 5:30 p.m. Tucson time. You are invited to participate from your homes.
Also during this time, Pima’s Governing Board will meet for a Study Session, but will pause to light a candle. The College will light our buildings in solidarity.
The bell ringing will coincide with a lighting ceremony around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and an invitation to cities and towns around the country to join Washington, D.C., in illuminating buildings and ringing church bells “in a national moment of unity and remembrance.”
Lee D. Lambert
Chancellor
