Division of Workforce and Continuing Education

Pima’s Fire Science program prepares you to serve your community and take on a challenging and rewarding career. Through classroom learning and real-world training, you’ll gain the skills, confidence, and certifications needed to become a professional firefighter.

Our instructors are experienced firefighters who bring their field knowledge directly into the classroom and training grounds. At Pima’s Fire Academy, you’ll learn firefighting techniques, hazardous materials response, wildland firefighting, and more — all while practicing in realistic, hands-on environments that prepare you for the job from day one.

Start with the Fire Science Academy Track certificate to meet entry-level certification requirements, then take your education further with our Fire and Emergency Services AAS degree, where you’ll study fire prevention, protection, emergency response, and more based on nationally recognized NFPA and FESHE standards. Credits from this degree may transfer toward a FESHE-approved bachelor’s degree.

Completing our Fire Science programs prepares you for careers in:

  • Municipal and wildland firefighting
  • Fire inspection and prevention
  • Hazardous materials response
  • Emergency services leadership and more
