EMT Certificate - Certification
The Arizona Department of Health Services, Division of Public Health Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services & Trauma System certifies EMTs in the state.
For PCC EMT students, it requires that they
- successfully complete required PCC prerequisites and courses,
- successfully complete all portions of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) exam, and
- meet all physical and background criteria, including criminal history.
After receiving national certification, you must submit a state application to receive the Arizona state EMT certification, which is required to work in Arizona.
Students with felony and some misdemeanor convictions, those awaiting trial on a criminal charge or those with a limitation that could prevent them from performing the physical duties of an EMT, may not be eligible to test for or receive state and national certification, despite completing PCC training. If you have questions about eligibility, contact DHS at 520-628-6985.
