IBEST is a nationally recognized instructional model that boosts students’ basic skills in reading, writing and math while they pursue a certificate in a career/technical program.
Through IBEST programs, students are able to enroll for credit classes and work simultaneously towards attaining their career/technical certificate and passing the GED® exam.
In Pima’s IBEST programs, the basic skills instruction is contextualized into the career/technical content, with Adult Education and technical teachers co-planning and co-teaching. This allows students to achieve educational and employment goals faster.
PCC currently offers 2 IBEST certificate programs:
- Behavioral Health Services IBEST
- Machine Tool IBEST
IBEST programs increase the rate at which ABE students advance to college-level career/technical programs and complete postsecondary credentials in fields offering family-sustaining wages and career advancement.
