July 11, 2017
Pima's Astronomy Faculty Dennis W. Just, Ph.D., received a $50,000 prize for winning an episode of the TV show “Superhuman” earlier this month.
Just appeared in the July 3 episode, “EXTREME AWARENESS,” which is available online. [His segment starts at about the 24-minute mark.] Just correctly identified the only three differences between two sets of more than 3,000 letters each.
“It was a wild experience,” Just says. “I had so much fun during the filming and taping. I never knew my ability would ever amount to anything this big! I'm glad I was able to represent PCC for it.”
Just is teaching three Astronomy courses this fall at Downtown Campus (AST 101IN - Solar System, AST 102IN - Stars, Galaxies, Universe and AST 105IN - Life in the Universe). Each of these integrated versions of the course feature lecture and lab taught simultaneously. View a list of all PCC Astronomy classes offered this fall.
From 2015 through spring 2017, he was a PCC adjunct. In 2012, he earned his Ph.D., in Astronomy from The University of Arizona Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory. His thesis was “The Influence of Environment on Galaxy Evolution.” He completed his undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University.
