Rep. Grijalva to Visit PCC 29th Street Coalition Center, May 12

May 9, 2014

Tucson, AZ – U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva will tour Pima Community College’s 29th Street Coalition Center, 4355 E. Calle Aurora, on Monday, May 12 from 10-11 a.m.

Located at the former Roberts Elementary School, the PCC 29th Street Coalition Center is home to one of PCC’s three Adult Education Centers, which provide Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency test preparation and other programs and services.

While at the center, Congressman Grijalva will visit a class and speak with students.

The center, which opened in October 2012, also is home the College’s Public Safety and Emergency Services Institute, where aspiring police officers, firefighters and first responders are trained.

In February 2012, the College broke ground on renovating the facility after reaching a lease agreement with the Tucson Unified School District, which had closed the school.

“The 29th Street Coalition Center is a great example of a partnership among PCC, TUSD and the 29th Street Corridor neighborhood coalition,” Chancellor Lee D. Lambert said. “What once was a vacant building is a thriving community resource in the center of the city.”
