PCC to Recognize Honors Program Students, May 1

Tucson, AZ -- Pima Community College will acknowledge students in the Honors Program for outstanding achievement Thursday, May 1 during the 2014 Honors Program Awards Ceremony.

“The ceremony recognizes student achievement, academic excellence and dedicated service to the College and community,” said PCC Honors Program coordinator Dr. Ken Vorndran.

Jeanette Alcaraz, recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship worth $30,000 annually, will be among the students recognized at the ceremony.

The annual celebration starts at 7 p.m., at the Downtown Campus Amethyst Room.  Honors projects will be on display from 6:30-7 p.m.

Students in the Honors Program and Honors Club have participated in several service projects that include a year-long project with the Veterans Hospital, Ben’s Bells, Earth Science Day and Earth Day activities. 

Students are also active with the Honors College at The University of Arizona and the Arizona State Honors Council.

More than 20 students will be recognized for leadership, service and exemplary academic performance.

The four students that will receive the Award for Exemplary Academic Performance are: Rebecca Byers, Emeeh Ofelia Benson, Francy Luna Diaz, and Lesa Montoya.
