Bilingual Career Fair at PCC’s Downtown Campus on Friday

March 26, 2014

Tucson, AZ – Interested in learning about careers in interpretation and translation? Join us at Pima Community College Downtown Campus on March 28 for a bilingual career fair and related workshops.

“Tucson Speaks: The Business of Languages” will take place 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. It will be a day of networking, skills workshops at all levels and a job fair for this booming area of employment. “If you’ve ever wondered how your ability to communicate in two or more different languages could benefit your community and become a potential career, this is the event for you,” said Jeffrey W. Gabbitas, Ph.D., lead faculty for Pima’s Translation and Interpretation Studies. “There is a great demand for well-trained and proficient bilingual translators/interpreters.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 44 percent increase in jobs in the fields of interpreting and translation in the next decade.

“Tucson Speaks: The Business of Languages is an annual event that allows employers in the translation/interpretation field to come and introduce their services to potential employees,” Gabbitas said. “The event also allows experienced translators/interpreters to attend training workshops to help them refine their skills.”

The event will be informative, interactive and free. Don’t forget to bring your résumé, there may be a job waiting for you. Following the event there will be two professional workshops for interpreters sponsored by Arizona Translators and Interpreters (ATI) and the National Center for Interpretation.
