PCC Early Childhood Studies Program Accredited

December 13, 2013

Tucson, AZ – The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Commission on Early Childhood Associate Degree Accreditation has found that Pima Community College’s Associate of Applied Science Early Childhood Studies degree program meets the standards expected of a program of studies that is educating the next generation of individuals who work with children from 0-8 years of age.

In a letter commending PCC, the NAEYC noted that PCC’s program “has done excellent work aligning assessments, providing appropriate rubrics and outlining very clear student instructions.”

“This is very good news for the College,” Chancellor Lee D. Lambert says. “We went out and sought accreditation as part of our goal to constantly evaluate and improve our programs and services.”

“Receiving the association’s accreditation reaffirms the important role that PCC’s Early Childhood Studies degree program plays in our community,” said Ginny Harmelink, PCC’s Early Childhood Education Department Chair. “The early childhood educators who earn degrees at PCC get meaningful employment helping our community’s young children during the most critical stage of their development. This accomplishment reflects the work and dedication of the entire ECE team. ”

At May’s graduation, 44 associate degrees in Early Childhood Studies were awarded, placing it among the top 10 degree-producing programs for 2012-13 at PCC.

PCC’s Early Childhood Studies A.A.S. program is accredited through July 2019.
