Tucson, AZ -- Pima Community College Music presents Dr. Mark Nelson in his annual faculty tuba recital on April 11.

Performing with him that night is guest artist Dr. Kelly Thomas, euphonium, playing the “Double Concerto for Euphonium and Tuba” by James Grant. The program commemorates the celebration of the 20th anniversary of James Grant’s “Three Furies for Solo Tuba” in the premiere performance of the tuba and piano version written for Mark Nelson and accompanied by Marie Sierra, piano. Composer James Grant will be present to comment on these two works.

Nelson also teams up with Pima faculty members Rob Boone, trombone, and Victor Valenzuela, horn, for the “Trio” by Hungarian composer Frigyes Hidas. Rounding out the program is the tenth anniversary performance of “Tango Images” written for Mark Nelson by Adriana Figueroa Mañas; “Concert Etude, op. 49” by Alexander Goedicke; and “Two Spanish Dances” by Enrique Granados.
