Message from the Provost to PCC students

Dr. Jerry Migler, Provost and Executive Chancellor for Academic and Student Services at Pima Community College, sent this message to PCC students providing details of the January 2013 visit by representatives of the Higher Learning Commission to PCC.

To all PCC students:

It is a pleasure to welcome you to a new semester at Pima Community College. The beginning of a new term is always an exciting time at our six campuses and numerous learning centers throughout the Tucson area.

As Provost, I want to assure you that everyone at PCC is here to help you make the most of this important step on your educational journey. Whether you’re taking one course or five, we want your Pima experience to be a success. If there’s anything we can do to help your achieve your goals, don’t hesitate to let us know.

The Spring 2013 semester provides PCC students – as well as our faculty, staff and members of the community we serve – with a unique opportunity to speak directly to the organization that accredits our College, the Higher Learning Commission.

An HLC team will be at PCC on Jan. 17-18 to learn more about issues raised recently by individuals and groups regarding PCC governance, administration and human resources. As I wrote in my December letter to students, the integrity and quality of PCC's programs and student support services are not being questioned by the HLC. We do not expect any changes in our ability to provide financial aid, your ability to transfer courses and programs to another college or, most importantly, in the value of our degrees and certificates.

In short, the opportunity afforded to you to get a high-quality education at an affordable price at PCC will not be affected.

As part of their visit, HLC team members will be at Northwest, East, Desert Vista and West campuses to meet confidentially with employees, students and others who wish to talk with them. Below is the schedule:

  • Jan. 17: 3 to 5 p.m. at Northwest Campus and East Campus.
  • Jan. 18: 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Desert Vista Campus and West Campus.
