Financial Aid Disbursements

Only classes that apply to your program of study are used to calculate financial aid eligibility and disbursement dates. Financial aid disbursements consist of several different types of funds. They all have different eligibility criteria and disbursement dates, therefore we highly suggest you read the information below to ensure your funds disburse when you expect them to.

Financial Aid is first disbursed to your student account. The Student Accounts Office then pays your tuition and other PCC charges. They then send you the excess funds (if any). This is called a refund. Refunds can come in the form of a paper check which is mailed to your local address or it can be electronically deposited into your personal checking or savings account (this is faster and the suggested method). 

Review the table below to determine your estimated disbursement date. Receiving your refund may take an additional five business days after the disbursement date listed below.

1st Loan Disbursement Date: First loan disbursement if you are not a first time borrower, are attending 6 or more credits and have no red X icons in the Financial Aid required section of your MyPima.   If your class starts in August and you still have red X icons on the disbursement date, your loan disbursement will be delayed at least 7 days as we are now required to verify your attendance before releasing the funds. If your class starts in September or later and you still have red X icons, funds will not disburse until those flags are green checks.

30-Day Delay Loan Disbursement Date: First loan disbursement if you are a first time borrower, are attending 6 or more credits and have no red X icons in the Financial Aid required section of your MyPima.  If you still have red X icons on this date, the disbursement will be delayed until the red X icons are cleared.

2nd Loan Disbursement Date: Occurs if you are still enrolled in 6 or more credits and have no red X icons.

  • Grants

    Generally, your Pell grant is disbursed the day before your classes start.  We finalize your Pell award on the Pell Recalculation Date (formally known as the Freeze date). We do this on the Pell Recalculation Date of every semester. On this date we lock your enrollment and adjust your financial aid based on that enrollment. To ensure you receive the maximum financial aid, PCC students are strongly encouraged to finalize their course schedule BEFORE the Pell Recalculation Date.  If you add a course (ex a late start course) after the Pell Recalculation Date, your Pell Grant will not be increased. 

    2017-2018 Pell Recalculation Dates:

    • The Pell Recalculation Date for Fall 2017 is Sept. 19, 2017 at 7pm
    • The Pell Recalculation Date for Spring 2018 is Feb. 14, 2018 at 7 pm
    • The Pell Recalculation Date for Summer 2018 is June 8, 2018 at 7 pm

    It is important to remember that grants are pro-rated based on your enrollment. So if you drop a class that hasn’t started, your grant will adjust accordingly. Also…if you stop attending a class, we will be notified by your professor and you will likely need to return the funds we disbursed to you for that class.

  • Scholarships

    Once you see the PCC scholarship award on your MyPima under financial aid awards, it will disburse the day before your classes start as long as you have the required number of credits needed for that award. If no number of credits is specified, then funds will disburse the day before the first day of class. Outside scholarships begin to disburse after we receive the funds from the scholarship donor, but no earlier than one day before class starts. If you do not see that scholarship on your MyPima under financial aid awards, contact the scholarship donor to see if they have sent the funds to PCC yet.

  • Federal Work Study

    You are not disbursed a lump sum of Federal Work Study funds, like the other awards. You will receive some of these funds every two weeks in the form of a pay check. The amount you receive will be based on the number of hours you worked. Your first paycheck or two may be mailed to your local address. We suggest you set up direct deposit as soon as you are hired.

  • Student Loans

    Direct Loan Funds:

    PCC disburses Direct Loan funds twice per semester or period (or four times per academic year).  There are two disbursements of Direct Loan funds each semester: one at the start of classes and one at the midpoint of the semester. Loan funds will disburse once you are attending 6 credit hours (or achieve half time enrollment) and you have met all other eligibility criteria. 

    Some other things to remember:  

    • The disbursement dates published on your MyPima account are estimates based on traditional 16-week enrollment.  Actual disbursements are based on YOUR course schedule and attendance.
    • Disbursements may be delayed if you have any red X icons in your Financial Aid Requirements in MyPima, enroll in late-start classes, if your schedule reflects less than half time enrollment (6 credits), and/or if you do not attend your courses.
    • Your first loan disbursement for each semester will not occur until you are attending 6 or more credit hours.  For students enrolled in late-start courses, this means that you will not see the first disbursement of your loan until at least 6 credit hours of your courses are in session for the semester.
    • First-time Direct Loan borrowers are required to wait 30-days from the start of the semester for the first disbursement of their loans regardless of schedule.

    Private Loan Funds:
    Pima disburses Private Loan funds once per semester or period, which, is twice per academic year.  Students must begin attendance and the loan is subject to a final credit approval with the lender.
