Deadline for Benefits Open Enrollment Is April 18
The deadline for benefits-eligible employees who want to make changes to their current benefits elections for the 2022-2023 benefits plan year is April 18. Changes can be made via the MyPima, @Work, New Pima Benefits Enrollment link. You cannot make changes to your benefits plan outside of open enrollment, unless you have a qualifying life event. More information on open enrollment is on the Employee Service Center Intranet page and the Wellness page. If you have questions, contact esc@pima.edu or 520-206-4945, or schedule a Google Meet appointment.

April 10-16 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
The College Police Department is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Please join us in honoring our incredible team of dispatchers. It takes a special person to answer the non-emergency lines, 9-1-1 calls and radio traffic. We are proud of their hard work, sacrifice and dedication to serving the College community.

Nominations for Diversity and Inclusion Awards Due by April 18
The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is accepting nominations for the College’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards. Each year, the College recognizes individuals, groups and organizations demonstrating exemplary leadership, vision or service in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, beyond their normal scope of work. To be considered, complete the Diversity and Inclusion Awards Nomination Form. All nominations must be received by 5 p.m. April 18. If you have questions, email pcc-diversity@pima.edu.

Tucson Street Rod Association Annual Rodders Day Car Show April 23
Crazy about street rods and classic cars? Join us for the Tucson Street Rod Association Annual Rodders Day Car Show April 23 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Downtown Campus. It’s free, fun for all ages and a great way to spend a day! There will be hand-built street rods, custom and classic cars, some worth up to $100,000; antique engines, tractors and mining equipment; vintage campers; food vendors and more. In addition, Dean of Applied Technology Greg Wilson will be on hand to tell you about Pima’s hands-on programs and provide tours of the College’s new Automotive Technology and Innovation Center, part of the Center of Excellence in Applied Technology.

Open Education Network Tour April 20
Join Barb Thees, Community Manager for the Open Education Network (OEN) Center for Open Education, for a virtual presentation on OEN’s resources and features, including the Data Dashboard and Community Hub. Although the College is not a member of OEN, this session will help determine if joining it would benefit our students, faculty and institution as a whole. This session will be of particular interest to administrators, faculty and staff interested in Open Education Resources (OER) opportunities for making course materials equitable, affordable and accessible. Earth Day at the Children’s Museum April 23
The office of Strategy, Analytics and Research (StAR) is participating in Earth Day at the Children’s Museum Tucson on April 23 9 a.m.-1 p.m. as part of the College’s new climate action work. This event is a great opportunity to connect with parents to share information about our programs. If you would like to volunteer to help StAR facilitate interactive activities for kids or provide information about your program offerings, sign up online. Buffelgrass Removal Project
Pima’s Advanced Manufacturing Club is teaming up with the Archaeology Department/Club to determine methods to remove buffelgrass from the Sonoran Desert. On April 23 10 a.m.-noon, Archaeology’s aerial drone will conduct flights over the southwest corner of East Campus to photograph and locate buffelgrass on a satellite image map of the area. Therapeutic Massage Appointments Available
The Northwest Campus Massage Clinic is offering quality massage services to students, staff and the public. A 50-minute massage is $20 for Pima employees and students with a Pima ID ($30 for the public). The clinic is in A211 and appointment dates and times are:

  • Thursdays through May 12: 12:30, 1:35, 2:40 and 3:45 p.m.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test within the previous 24 hours is required. Therapeutic massage is not appropriate for anyone with serious or uncontrolled medical conditions, contagious illness or fever, or for women who are pregnant. Schedule Your April 19 Mobile Mammography Screening
Schedule your April 19 appointment for a breast cancer screening. Mobile On-site Mammography will be at the District Office 7-11 a.m. and at the Downtown Campus 1-5 p.m. Call 480-967-3767 or 1-800-285-0272 for an appointment. The flier has the schedule and details.

Biometric Wellness Screenings
Schedule your appointment by May 13 for a biometric screening at LabCorp or request an at-home test kit by April 20 and return it by no later than May 4. Biometric screenings are required for the 2021-2022 Pima Healthy Rewards Program. All employees enrolled in the College’s BCBSAZ medical plans are welcome to participate in this free opportunity to stay on top of your health. The flier has the schedule and details.

Chef Jeff Event May 5 to Benefit Hospitality Leadership Program
Pima is holding a special event May 5, featuring Chef Jeff Henderson of The Chef Jeff Project.

The schedule for the event and community outreach at Casino del Sol’s AVA Amphitheater is 2-8 p.m. Career & Education Expo, 3-4:30 p.m. VIP Reception, and 5-9 p.m. Cooking Competition.

The fast-paced culinary competition will feature four teams comprised of well-known local chefs, Pima Hospitality Leadership students and students attending Pima County’s Joint Technical Education District (JTED) high schools. Judging for each round will be by celebrity chefs. The winning team will face Chef Jeff and his team in a final cook-off.

College Employee Satisfaction Survey
This month, the College Employee Satisfaction Survey (CESS) is being administered anonymously by a third party. The College is conducting this survey in order to get a better understanding of employee morale, satisfaction and engagement at the College. Your opinions are important and the survey is your chance to express those opinions. Watch for additional updates in @PimaNews and an invitation email, which will include the anonymous survey link. Cababi Art & Literary Magazine Submissions Due April 15
Cababi Art & Literary Magazine is looking for submissions for the 2021-2022 edition. Cababi is the official Pima publication that features art, literature and special projects by full-time and part-time faculty, staff and administrators. Cababi is seeking submissions in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, all visual arts and live performances through April 15. Visit pima.edu/cababi to learn more. Call for Proposals: PimaOnline Educator's Conference
PimaOnline invites faculty and staff to share their innovative teaching, edtech and course design practices at the November 2-4 PimaOnline Educators’ Conference. We seek presentations and resources that advance innovation, open pedagogy and equitable teaching — and we are particularly seeking HSI-focused workshops and presentations. These can be focused on all modalities, including fully online, virtual, HyFlex or Web-enhanced, face-to-face teaching. Submit your abstract by May 6 online. In-person Graduation Ceremony at Kino Stadium May 18
For 2022, the College is planning its first in-person graduation ceremony since 2019 and its first-ever outdoor ceremony.

Join us at 7 p.m. May 18 at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2500 E. Ajo Way.

The Graduation Committee needs volunteers to assist students and guests at the 2022 Graduation Ceremony May 18 at the Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium. If you’re interested in volunteering or if you have questions, please contact the appropriate committee member:

To be a guest usher assisting graduates and visitors: Michael Tulino, mtulino@pima.edu

  • Help ensure attendees find their way to the appropriate seating areas
  • Direct graduates to the check-in area and assist students during the ceremony
  • Ushers are needed from 4:30-9 p.m. (some assignments may be able to leave at 7:15 p.m., if necessary)

  • Provide pre-printed reader card to each graduate
  • Direct students to the staging area in preparation for entering the stadium
  • Volunteers are needed from 4:45-7 p.m.

Volunteers Needed for Law Enforcement Phlebotomy Training
The College teaches a concentrated one-week course, training law enforcement officers to perform blood draws for DUI investigations. After the officers develop a level of expertise in performing blood draws on a venipuncture practice arm, they practice drawing blood on other students in the classroom and, under the direct and close supervision of Phlebotomy faculty, from other volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 15 and 16, and 8 a.m.-noon June 17. SandScript Art and Literature Magazine 2022 Unveiling Celebration
Join the SandScript staff in celebrating the student artists and writers featured in this historic double release of both digital and print editions. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. May 11 in the Proscenium Theatre at the West Campus Center for the Arts. The theater requires masks and socially distanced seating between your groups and others. Free SandScript copies for artists and authors, $10 donations for others to support future publication. For more information, contact eprollins@pima.edu.

  • The Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition runs through May 6 at the Bernal Gallery. Its opening reception is 3-5 p.m. April 21. The awards ceremony begins at 4 p.m.
  • “PaperWorks Sonoran Collective for Paper and Book Artists,” exhibit runs April 18-Sept. 2 in the Visual Arts Gallery. The opening reception is 2-4 p.m. April 27.
  • “Romeo and Juliet: In 30 Minutes or Less” play runs 7 p.m. April 23 and 1 p.m. April 24 at the West Campus Center for the Arts. Admission is free.
  • Pima Dance - Dance Fusion, directed by Nolan Kubota, performances are at 7:30 p.m. April 29 and 30 at the West Campus Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. Tickets are $10-$12.
