PCC Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime Against Westwind

 Tucson, AZ – The men’s basketball team (4-3) couldn’t close it out in overtime on Friday as it lost 103-98 to the Westwind Prep (post grad) team as part of the Thanksgiving Tournament at the West Campus’ Aztec Gym.

The Aztecs trailed the entire first half but took its first lead of the game early in the second after Roland Jones (Palo Verde HS) drained a three-pointer to put them up 45-44. Later in the half, down 68-66, the Aztecs went on an 11-0 run to go up 77-68. Westwind finished the half on an 8-2 run to force overtime. Westwind went on a 6-0 run to finish the game. Between the second half and overtime, there were 10 ties and various lead changes.

Jones scored a team-high 20 points for the Aztecs. Marcus Mears (Buena HS) scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half and overtime. Rodriguez Tucker (White Station HS, TN) had 15 points for the game and Lawrence Pierce (Peoria HS) finished with 11. Mike Jones (Verrado HS) contributed with 10 points.

The Aztecs will play its second and final game of the Thanksgiving Tournament against Team Sweeney on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
