Caregiver State Certification Exam Prep Course

Complete Pima’s five-week Caregiver course – NRA 104 – and apply to sit for the Arizona certification exam to become a Certified Caregiver, and be qualified to work for long-term care and assisted living facilities. Credit and noncredit course options are available. Ask a program advisor.

Course highlights

  • Approved by the Arizona Board of Examiners of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers
  • Combined lecture and hands-on lab training
  • Eligible for federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funding

Pima students learn to:

  • assist patients with activities of daily living, including at mealtime, and walking and toileting
  • check vital signs
  • communicate effectively with patients, their families and health care teams
  • report unusual occurrences or incidents to the nurse in charge
  • maintain a safe patient environment
  • assist patients with medication setups and administration
  • care for a patient’s home and budget

Students must provide:

  • Accuplacer test results: reading, arithmetic and WritePlacer
  • Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card: Level 1
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Proof of American Heart Association First Aid/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Proof of Arizona Food Handler certification
  • Physical exam report
  • Tuberculosis (TB) skin test results
  • Immunization record
  • Proof of negative drug screen (Pima staff will provide paperwork for drug screening)
