Women’s tennis team 16th at nationals

The Pima Aztecs women's tennis team finished 16th in the NJCAA National Tournament that concluded Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.

The Aztecs had their highlights in the tournament with individual wins:

• Helen Alteiri won a first- round No. 2 singles match against Adalyn Hazelman of New Mexico Military Institute.
• Kelly Ponzio and Alteiri won in the No. 2 doubles main draw bracket round of 16, beating Sharron Clark and Regan Perme of Collin County Community College.
• Tatum Rochin made it to the quarterfinals of the No. 1 singles consolation bracket.
• Kari Emery and Rochin made it to the semifinals of the consolation bracket for No. 1 doubles.

The Aztecs final team score was 11.5. No Pima athletes competed in the final matches.

Tyler Junior College won the tournament with a score of 47.
