PCC’s East Campus Hosts Start of El Tour’s 85-mile Race on Nov. 17

November 16, 2012

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College’s East Campus again is hosting the start of an El Tour de Tucson bicycle race.

The campus, 8181 E. Irvington Road, is the starting point for the 85-mile race in the 30th annual El Tour de Tucson, on Saturday, Nov. 17. The race begins at 9 a.m.

Campus administrators say anyone needing to be on campus that day before 10 a.m., including those involved in youth football on the football field at the campus entrance, should use the Poinciana Drive access off of South Pantano Road. Traffic off of Irvington will be heavier than usual in the morning, and may be suspended for some time as the cyclists begin their leg.

Last year, the campus also hosted El Tour’s 85-mile race.

“This is just another way that East Campus demonstrates that it is a true partner in the community,” said Campus President Charlotte Fugett, noting East Campus’s regular co-sponsorship of a Halloween celebration at the adjacent City of Tucson William Clements Center, and its regular use as a polling place during elections.

Each year, more than 9,000 riders participate in the various rides of El Tour. Ride lengths this year range from 111 miles to a quarter mile. Each year, El Tour raises a total of nearly $2 million for charities. To find maps of the various El Tour rides, see the Maps/Cue Sheets page.
