Tucson, AZ – At least 45 Aviation Technology Program students will receive their certificates of completion during a public ceremony for friends and family on Friday evening, Aug. 10.

Kim Murray, Corporate Director of Human Resources of Universal Avionics Systems Corp., will be the keynote speaker. Universal Avionics, which is headquartered in Tucson, is the leading manufacturer of innovative avionics systems for business jets, turboprop aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters, regional and commercial airliners used by corporate, military and airline operators.

The College offers certificate and degree opportunities in Airframe and Powerplant, Avionics, and Structural Repair concentrations. Most Aviation Technology Program students combine at least two concentrations. Students develop their skills on a variety of aircraft models, from single-engine Piper and Cessna airplanes to Boeing 727s jets, including a 727-200F donated by FedEx Express on July 31.

PCC has a transfer partnership with Eastern New Mexico University to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Arts & Sciences, Aviation Studies. However, most PCC Aviation Technology Program students have jobs by the time they graduate. The Aviation Technology Program runs cohort classes year-round, with students completing in March and August each year.

The College’s state-of-the-art Aviation Technology Center (ATC) opened on the west side of Tucson International Airport in August 2001. The ATC features a 10,700-square-foot hangar. Friday’s ceremony will be held in the hangar, adjacent to one of the program’s Boeing 727s.

PCC’s Aviation Technology Program is highly regarded in the aerospace industry. A recent story in Inside Tucson Business called the program “one of the best kept secrets among many in the Tucson region.” Many veterans are among its students, as discussed in a story that appeared in the Arizona Daily Star.
