PCC Hosts Writers’ Workshop, May 25-27

May 16, 2012

Tucson, AZ – Authors and literary agents from across the country will come to Pima Community College next week for the 24th annual Pima Writers’ Workshop.

The three-day, non-credit workshop features readings, manuscript consultations and lectures with some of the nation’s most prominent writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

“The Pima Writers’ Workshop is for all writers, beginning and experienced,” said Meg Files, the PCC West Campus writing instructor organizing the event. “Our goal is to provide workshop participants an opportunity to learn from and be inspired by published writers.”

Justin Torres kicks off the conference with a reading from his acclaimed novel We the Animals. Thomas Cobb, whose novel Crazy Heart was made into an Academy Award-winning movie, will talk about what he learned in Hollywood. Also on the faculty are Ann Cummins, author of the novel Yellowcake, and Kevin Canty, whose new novel is called Everything. Mark Jude Poirier, whose adaptation of his novel Goats premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will talk about story beginnings and endings.

Others on the faculty are poet Andrew Grace, Nancy Mairs, novelist Joshua Mohr, Gina Ochsner, author and comedy writer Sarah Rainone, and Michael Parker, the author of five novels including Towns Without Rivers. Literary agents from Regal Literary and the Wylie Agency in New York will offer advice on publishing.

The fee is $130 and can include a manuscript consultation with an author or agent. To register, call (520) 206-6468. For more information, contact Meg Files, (520) 206-6084, mfiles@pima.edu.
