PCC Fills Provost Post, Announces Changes in VPs, Admissions

May 14, 2012

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College has a new senior academic administrator.

Dr. Jerome Migler was selected Friday to serve as the College’s next Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. His appointment must be approved by the College’s Board of Governors, which will consider it on Wednesday.

Dr. Migler was among 49 people from across the country to apply for the post, which oversees all academic issues at PCC’s six campuses and learning centers. Five finalists were interviewed by College officials last week.

In an email sent Friday afternoon to PCC staff and faculty, Interim Chancellor Dr. Suzanne Miles called Dr. Migler “a seasoned administrator” who is “the right person for the this position.”

Dr. Migler will succeed Charlotte Fugett, who has served as Acting Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor since March.

Dr. Migler currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Provost of Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead, Minn. He also has served as Vice President of College Outreach and Dean of Technologies and Services Division at North Dakota State College of Sciences.

Dr. Migler has worked as a high school teacher and college instructor. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from North Dakota State University and has a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Miles also recently announced three other staff changes:

Terra Benson was named PCC’s new director of admissions and registration. Ms. Benson is a former assistant director of financial aid who has been with the College since 2005. She has served as acting director of admissions and registration since last fall.

Donna Gifford, vice president of online development at Community Campus, has assumed the additional duties of vice president of instruction for Northwest Campus. Ms. Gifford has been with the College since 1999.

At Northwest Ms. Gifford replaces Dr. Darla Zirbes, who has been named vice president of instruction at Community Campus. Dr. Zirbes, who has worked for the College since 2010, replaces Dr. John Carroll, who has been acting vice president of instruction at Community Campus and will return to Downtown Campus.

Wednesday’s Governing Board meeting starts at 7 p.m. at PCC’s East Campus, 8181 E. Irvington Road.
