PCC Culinary Arts instructor Infuso Receives Canyon Ranch Institute Prevention Pioneer Award
May 29, 2012
Tucson, AZ – Barry Infuso, lead faculty for PCC’s Culinary Arts degree program, is a Canyon Ranch Institute Prevention Pioneer award honoree for his more than 10 years of work promoting healthy eating among members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
According to Canyon Ranch Institute, Infuso’s work with the tribe started when he was asked to help seniors and children in the Head Start Program learn about heart healthy food choices. Most recently he has been a teacher in the Tribe’s “Cooking for the Health of It” program, assisting participants in preparing healthy recipes, providing information on plate size and portion control, and teaching participants how to prepare healthy foods at home.
The Prevention Pioneer award recognizes individuals, organizations and initiatives that are advancing health literacy, improving prevention and eliminating health disparities.
