Sculpture-On-Campus Artist Installs Work at East Campus Friday morning, April 20

Tucson, AZ – One of the artists chosen for the College’s latest round of its Sculpture-On-Campus project will be installing his sculpture this Friday morning.

 With the help of PCC East Campus facilities staff, Jason E. Butler (www.jasonebutler.com) will begin work on his installation at 8:30 a.m., April 20, 2012.

Butler is one of three PCC art faculty members selected to have a 2012 Sculpture-On-Campus installation. The other two are full-time faculty members Joe Dal Pra and Barbara Jo McLaughlin. Butler is a PCC adjunct faculty member.

Other 2012 Sculpture-On-Campus artists are Breiten Bucher, Kevin Caron, Elizabeth Frank, Don Taylor and Joan Waters.

Butler is a native of California and a graduate of Humboldt State University. He moved to Tucson in 2003 to pursue is Master of Fine Arts degree at The University of Arizona. Since completing his MFA, he has opened a studio, taught art at a Tucson High Magnet School and taught metalworking seminars. He recently earned three large commissions from the City of Tucson.

This is the fourth installment of the College’s Sculpture-On-Campus project. Since the project had its first installations in 2004, a total of 19 sculptures have been displayed throughout East Campus, 8181 E. Irvington Road. Mike Stack, and PCC Art Faculty member since 2002 who helps coordinate the project, said works are chosen to inspire the kind of creative thinking that is essential for any academic institution.

Each artist commits to a minimum time that the selected work will be displayed, but many leave works much longer.

An opening reception of the 2012 installations is planned for October 2012.
