Former Chancellor’s Affiliation with PCC Ends in 74 Days

April 17, 2012

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College’s Governing Board tonight unanimously approved a request to end former Chancellor Dr. Roy Flores’ affiliation with the College on June 30, 2012.

In a three-paragraph letter sent to the Board on April 16, Dr. Flores wrote that he intends to “sever all ties with the College” because of continuing health problems.

Dr. Flores underwent quadruple-bypass surgery on Oct. 14, 2011 and an emergency angioplasty on Feb. 3. He announced his intention to retire on April 13, eight days after his 70th birthday.

“I need to devote my entire efforts and energies to regaining my health,” he wrote.

Dr. Flores served as Chancellor from March 2003 to February 2012. He was placed on medical leave on Feb. 9.

Allegations of unprofessional conduct were brought against Dr. Flores by a number of former and current PCC employees on March 26. The College immediately began looking into the allegations and informed PCC’s Governing Board. Dr. Flores denies any wrongdoing.

Federal and state law, College policy and common decency require PCC to keep the allegations confidential. The College will not release the names of the individuals or the specifics of their allegations.
