PCC Fashion Design Student Takes First Place in Competition
February 29, 2012
Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College fashion design student Rose Genzman has taken first place in a citywide design competition.
“I love creating patterns,” Genzman said. “Designing clothing is something that comes from within.”
The competition, which took place during the 5th annual disABLED Divaz Fashion Show, was sponsored by the Aurora Foundation. In the event, local designers competed against one another to make custom-designed outfits for each model to strut down the runway in and to keep.
“Winning this award is a special honor,” Genzman said.
As first place winner of the design competition, Genzman also earned the opportunity to create a custom designed garment for Grammy Award-winning singer, actress and founder of I Heart My Girlfriends, Kelly Rowland.
"For women with disabilities, in particular physical disabilities, having a chance to wear fashionable clothing like their nondisabled counterparts is vital for self-esteem and having a positive outlook," said Nancy Spaulding, Fashion Design Instructor.
“Rose is an exceptional student with a lot of determination to be the best,” said Spaulding. “This honor could open doors that she never dreamed possible.”
