Dr. Roy Flores to End Affiliation with Pima Community College

April 13, 2012

Tucson, AZ – Former Pima Community College Chancellor Dr. Roy Flores will end his affiliation with the College on June 30, 2012 because of health reasons.

Dr. Flores turned 70 on April 4. He served as PCC’s chancellor from March 2003 to February 2012.

Dr. Flores underwent quadruple-bypass surgery on Oct. 14, 2011 and an emergency angioplasty on Feb. 3. He was placed on medical leave on Feb. 9.

According to the terms of his contract, Dr. Flores would have been paid by the College through June 30, 2013, working on special projects at the direction of the Board of Governors.

His decision to retire from PCC a year earlier than expected means he will no longer be paid by the College after June 30, 2012.

Dr. Suzanne Miles was named Interim Chancellor by the Board on Feb. 29. A national search for a permanent Chancellor is underway. Dr. Miles, a 26-year veteran of PCC, will not apply for the post.
