Pima Community College to Take Part in Nationwide Accountability Project

January 19, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College has been selected as one of 40 community colleges to pilot a new Voluntary Framework of Accountability (VFA) that is designed to redefine what “success” means for two-year institutions nationwide.

The VFA represents the first national system to provide accurate data, operational transparency and the ability for colleges to benchmark student progress and completion data against peer institutions.

“It is impossible to improve if you don’t know what your shortcomings are,” says Dr. Roy Flores, Pima Community College’s Chancellor. “Creating uniform, easy to understand measures will give community colleges and the public a better sense of what works, so that we can direct our resources more effectively and improve student success.”

Chancellor Flores is one of 20 members of the VFA Steering Committee, which provides top-level oversight of the initiative with feedback to VFA staff on direction and scope of work. Additionally, the steering committee reviews working group progress and makes recommendations on work products, approves deliverables, and sets the framework for pilot sites.
