College Updates
Important: Reset Your Password Pima Community College is implementing a new program for managing and authenticating users. This requires all users, including students, faculty, and staff, who have not reset their password since May 2009 to do so by January 1, 2010. If you do not change your password, you will not be able to login to PCC systems after January 1st, 2010 and you will have to click on the “Activate Your Account” link on the MyPima login page to set up access.
Use the following process to reset your password:
- Log in to MyPima with your current username and password
- Click on the “Change Password” link in the upper left corner of the screen
- Follow the instructions
Serve on the Ad Hoc Review and Advisory Work Group to review the Personnel Policy Statement for College Employees (Common Policy) Under the provision provided in Board Policy-4001, an ad hoc work group will be convened to review personnel policies and fringe benefits suggestions and provide recommendations for revisions to the Common Language policy.
If you are interested in serving, contact Donna Gifford, Assistant Vice Chancellor, at dgifford@pima.edu, by November 12, 2009. Please include your name, job title, location, and contact telephone number. Individuals selected to participate will be notified by Human Resources by November 20, 2009.
Provide input on language changes to the Personnel Policy Statement for College Employees (Common Policy) Board Policy-4001 permits individual employees and employee groups to provide input to the personnel policies and fringe benefits common to all employees.
Please submit your suggestions for changes via email to humres@pima.edu. Include in your suggestion the policy reference (if applicable) and the language you believe should be included or revised.
Your suggestions will be forwarded for review to the Ad Hoc Review and Advisory Work Group, comprised of non-exempt and exempt staff, and faculty. This group will review suggestions received by November 30, 2009 and develop recommendations for revision to the Common Policy.
Recommendations will be reviewed by Chancellor’s Cabinet and those recommendations affirmed by Cabinet will be submitted to the Board of Governors in June 2010 for inclusion in the 2010/11 Personnel Policy Statement for College Employees.

Best Practices: Tech Swap Program
There are innovative ways of providing professional development opportunities to your support staff, even with little or no additional budget for the activities. PCC developed the Tech Swap program to address the needs of the institution and offer training to IT technicians and specialists.
The program is completely voluntary and provides entry level IT staff with cross-training throughout the district. Each technician spends a day at a host campus to assist in projects, deployments and trouble-shooting. It allows the technician to get to know colleagues, learn how technology is managed at other locations and, in general, learn more about the college. It is also an opportunity to brainstorm on different approaches and solutions to the technology-related issues that arise on a regular basis.
The schedule allows for an exchange of techs to take place once every six weeks. The date is usually a Friday, but can be adjusted based on the needs of the location. The visiting tech reports to the local supervisor for a schedule of the day’s activities or responsibilities. The local supervisor oversees the activities and assigns and monitors tasks for the visiting tech. The visiting tech may have a special interest in learning about a technique or method in use at the assigned campus. Or, the local supervisor may have something unique to show the visiting tech.
An expanded version of the program allows campuses to swap techs for a full week.
