Benefits

Flu shot clinics are coming to your campus in October. CIGNA representatives will be visiting each campus between Oct. 15 and 22 to give vaccinations for seasonal flu, but NOT the H1N1 strain. Details for each clinic will be announced in @PimaNews.

If you would like a flu shot earlier, call your primary care physician or visit one of the convenience care clinics:

For more information, call the Employee Service Center, 206-4945.

College Plan: Student Services Centers

Under the new Students Services model, the generalists of the Student Services Centers are able to address most student queries. However, there is back-up and support for those times when a student comes in with multiple or complex issues that can't be resolved at the center. Those students can be referred to Vice Presidents of Student Development, enrollment services managers, retention specialists, counselors, Disabled Student Resources, Instruction, the Learning Center or campus police. The professionals in these areas have the depth of knowledge to handle the most complex of student inquiries and issues.

The new centers will be completed by the end of October. Students and employees are invited to Open House events that will be held simultaneously at the six campuses on Nov. 2, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Inside Story: Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week

The observance of National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week Sept. 20-26 serves as a reminder of the many contributions to the Hispanic community made by PCC, which has been a Hispanic-Serving Institution since 1999.

An institution designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) must have a Hispanic enrollment of least 25 percent of total enrollment. PCC’s fall 2008 enrollment was 30.7 percent Hispanic. The Desert Vista Campus had the largest percentage enrollment of Hispanics, 61.3 percent. Pima is one of nine HSIs in Arizona. There are 222 HSIs in the United States.

“All citizens should have an opportunity to go as far as their talents and drive can take them. That is the uniquely American dream, and education is essential to achieving it,” Chancellor Dr. Roy Flores said. “An educated Hispanic workforce is crucial if the United States is to remain the world’s foremost economic power.”

Pima’s HSI designation made the receipt of almost $9 million in Title V grant money possible.  The U.S. Department of Education Title V grant program awards funds to HSIs to support programs designed to improve academic outcomes for Hispanic and low-income students.
