College Updates
MAX 2000 Service Ending August 21 On August 21, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. the MAX 2000 telephone registration system will be removed from service. As a result, Pima Community College will cease accepting automated payments for registration over the phone. Utilization of telephone registration has decreased to 0.2% of registrations in the 2009 fiscal year. In addition, the telephone registration system has increasingly onerous security requirements that would not be cost effective to implement.
Online registration and payment is accepted through MyPima. Payment is also accepted at every campus Cashier’s Office. Contact the Student Accounts office if phone payment is necessary at (520) 206-4574. Find more information on payment options at www.pima.edu/payments and registration options at www.pima.edu/registration.
CFA announces 2009-2010 Season: Happily Ever After The theme of the PCC Center for the Arts’ 2009-10 season is “Happily Ever After,” a collection of fun and imaginative productions, including student performances, international, national and regional contemporary visual artists exhibitions, as well as award-winning digital video and film screenings and a student fashion show.
The Center for the Arts complex on PCC’s West Campus consists of the 425-seat Proscenium Theatre, the 75-plus-seat Black Box Theatre, the 75-plus-seat Recital Hall and the Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery.
The season runs September through May. For the full schedule and ticket information, go to www.pima.edu/cfa or call 206-6986.
United Way Day of Caring is Sept. 16 Pima Community College employees are encouraged to participate in the United Way Day of Caring on Sept. 16.
In Day of Caring, employees can spend a work day on volunteer projects around Tucson. For more information, contact your campus representative or call 206-4888. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 9. Details can be found here.
Day of Caring volunteer hours count toward your step progression.
PCC Auction, August 24-25 Pima Community College will be holding a Sealed Bid Public Auction of surplus equipment and supplies at the M&S Warehouse, 6680 S. Country Club Rd., from August 24-25, 2009. The Auction is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A preview is scheduled for August 20 from 9 to 4 p.m.
If you have any questions, please call Raul Bejarano at 206-2653 or the Central Warehouse at 206-2650.
Reminder: All College Day is Aug. 21 All College Day is Friday, Aug. 21, in the West Campus Gymnasium. This year’s theme is “Overcoming Challenges.”
You can review this year’s agenda at www.pima.edu/allcollegeday.
Benefits
Keep in mind that your health benefits may differ a bit from your co-worker’s, depending on which plan you selected during open enrollment. To answer the question, “Which plan do I have?” log onto MyPima, click the “At Work” tab, then select “Benefits Statement.” If you have the “Open Access Plus” plan, you have a Healthy Awards account that reimburses you for a portion of your CIGNA costs. If you have the “CIGNA – In Network Only” plan, you have an additional vision benefit.
Accreditation Update
The Accreditation Workshops schedule for this academic year includes the new Workshop III—Rehearsal for the Site Visit. This workshop will cover what to expect when the Higher Learning Commission review team visits the College in September of 2010.
More information, including the schedule and registration, can be found here.
College Plan: Status report now available online
The Board of Governors heard a status report on the 2008-2011 College Plan at its Aug. 12 meeting. You can see the presentation and status report on the College Plan online at: www.pima.edu/collegeplan.
The plan has 38 strategies. Of the 13 due for completion in the first year, 11 have been completed and two have been extended. The purpose of the College Plan is to improve instruction, improve operations, foster creativity and link our improvements to reaccreditation.
Best Practices: PCC, Eastern New Mexico University articulation agreement
PCC students can earn a bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University without leaving Arizona under the terms of an articulation agreement announced by the two institutions earlier this summer. PCC students who graduate with an associate’s degree, apply to a related degree program at ENMU, and have a PCC grade-point average of at least 2.0 are guaranteed admission to ENMU. ENMU will accept the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) and allow up to 95 semester-credit hours from PCC toward its degrees.
The nine bachelor’s degrees being offered by ENMU under the partnership are: Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Aviation Science; Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Aviation Science; Bachelor’s of Occupational Education with a major in Professional Technical Education; Bachelor’s in Business Administration; Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Emergency Medical Services; Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Hospitality Management; Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing; and Bachelor’s of University Studies and Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Sciences (general-student selected).
The ENMU classes in the partnership programs are available fully online. In addition, all undergraduate Pima students who enroll at ENMU can pay the New Mexico in-state tuition and fee rate ($148 for one semester credit-hour) if they enroll in six semester credit-hours or fewer at ENMU. Students can enroll in additional hours at PCC to ensure full federal financial aid.
If you know of a student interested in learning more about ENMU programs, please refer him or her to a Pima advisor. Information also is available by e-mailing enmu.transfer@enmu.edu or by calling Ronda Hutcherson, transfer student support specialist at ENMU, at (866) 817-5333.
