Board of Governors Meeting Update
The Board of Governors approved a $2 per credit hour increase at last night’s meeting. The 3.7% change increases in-state tuition to $51.50 before fees.
“The students did not create the economic crisis and we will do our part to ensure that they are not unnecessarily burdened by economic decisions made by others. We are not going to rely on tuition increases to make up a major portion of the shortfall in revenues,” Chancellor Flores explained.
Additionally, the Board approved the purchase of an emergency broadcasting loudspeaker system that will integrate with current College voice and data networks. The purchase represents the initial phase of the College’s emergency alert plan, with installation initially at the West and Northwest campuses.
In Memoriam: Kathy Curley
We are very saddened to announce the passing of Kathy Curley, Library Director of the Downtown Campus, on March 30, 2009. Throughout Kathy’s thirty-two years with the College, she served as an advisor for Phi Theta Kappa and won numerous awards for her advising. A complete memorial can be found online.
A Celebration of her life will be held at the PCC's Downtown Campus in the Amethyst Room from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 9, 2009. The Kathleen Fockler Curley Scholarship for PCC Honors Program students has been developed in her honor through the Pima Community College Foundation.
Staff Classification Cyclical Review Begins
The annual cyclical review begins this month. Human Resources will be conducting informational meetings throughout the College. The dates, locations and times will be posted shortly on the Classification/Compensation website.
The following job families are included in this year’s review:
- Instructor
- Assistant Program Coordinator
- Program Assistant
- Program Coordinator
- Advanced Program Coordinator
- Assistant Program Manager
- Program Manager
- Advanced Program Manager
- Program Specialist
The purpose of the staff classification cyclical review is to ensure that the staff job specifications accurately reflect assigned essential duties. Essential duties are those related to knowledge, skills, abilities and qualifications that meet the needs of the work unit.
Regular full-time employees occupying the positions in the above job families must complete a position cyclical review form to participate. The position review form is where employees note any changes that have occurred to their position since the last classification study. The form can be found online. All regular full-time employees are expected to participate.
Informational meetings will be held for employees, their supervisors and administrators to describe the cyclical review process, review related documents, and discuss position allocations and timelines. Employees and their supervisors are encouraged to attend the informational meetings. If you have any questions regarding the schedule, the study or the process, contact Sam McGlone at 206-4632.

A limited number of volunteer opportunities are available for the May 21, 2009 Graduation ceremony. The time commitment varies from one and a half to three hours in the evening. Contact Craig Winters at 206-4719 if you are interested in volunteering.
