College Updates Arizona State Retirement System Update Mr. Pat Klein, Assistant Director of External Affairs from the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), made a presentation to College faculty and employees on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. In his presentation, Klein explained the following: - The Arizona Constitution protects the ASRS trust from state borrowing and a decrease in benefits.
- The contribution rate for Fiscal Year 2009-10 will decrease from 9.45% to 9.40%.
- The investments and assets of the ASRS trust have decreased. The decrease was expected and the system is closely monitoring investments to minimize the impact the declining economy will have on ASRS.
- The ASRS trust currently has about $20 billion and is an average-sized retirement system nationally.
More information can be found in the presentation handout and on the ASRS website.
