Accreditation Update
The following is a continuation of an article by Theresa Riel from @Pimanews, February 4 and 11, 2009.

The following recommendations were developed and are in the process of being implemented in FY 2008-09:

  1. Develop and offer “2nd Generation” SLO Assessment Working Sessions for Full-Time Faculty.
    1. Create new SLO assessment working sessions focused on practical assessment skills, utilization of data, and reporting (four in February and March).
    2. Deliver workshops to faculty in a variety of modalities (group, individual, electronically).
  2. Continue financial support of SLO Facilitators and Discipline Leaders infrastructure.
    1. Continue financial support to five SLO Facilitators through reassigned time.
    2. Continue financial support to 65 Discipline Leaders.
    3. Continue financial support to send SLO Teams to HLC workshops/conferences.
  3. Continue financial support of Adjunct Faculty participation in SLO assessment.
    1. Offer “2nd Generation” SLO assessment working sessions to adjunct faculty twice in spring, and twice in fall.
    2. Pay for up to 200 adjunct faculty to participate in two-hour work sessions.
  4. Support the utilization of technology in SLO Processes.
    1. Purchased and now implementing the recommended SLO assessment data management system.
    2. Offer SLO training on the new Employee Development (ED) system.
  5. Enhance College-wide communications about Student Learning Outcomes.
    1. Develop brochures and presentation materials to communicate the College’s Student Learning Outcomes to students and the general public.
    2. Publish an electronic newsletter for Faculty on Student Learning Outcomes assessment.
    3. Increase the information on Student Learning Outcomes available on the College Web Page.
  6. Align Student Learning Outcomes efforts with Accreditation Self-Study activities.
    1. Add Coordinator of Accreditation Self-Study as a member of the Student Learning Outcomes Committee.
    2. SLO Committee members assist with the HLC Criteria 3 Section of the Accreditation Self Study Report.

Finally, we are interested in knowing what’s not perfect in our programs and how we can improve upon it. Individual instructors are encouraged to participate in the discussion. We want you to contribute toward the data that show PCC’s programs are well thought out and feedback from the faculty is used to make them better.
