DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for teaching English-for-Speakers-of-Other-Languages (ESOL), and/or ABE/GED or Computer Basics classes to a diverse population of adult students; prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, and classroom presentations; develop, review, and revise curriculum; assess, evaluate and document students’ skills and progress; maintain accurate records and documentation; perform special work assignments as part of the center and program team; participate in professional development activities as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: Instructional principles and methods; curriculum development; materials evaluation and selection; adult learning theory and principles; non-traditional, student-centered approaches to instruction; and career and academic development principles.

Ability to: Instruct and evaluate adult learners; develop and implement curricula and lesson plans; maintain cohesive, multi-level group dynamics; adapt instruction and programming to meet student needs; and communicate and cooperate with students, coworkers and the general public.

Experience, Education and Licensing: Bachelors degree in a related field and certification or eligibility for certification for Adult Education by the Arizona Department of Education.  Minimum of two years’ classroom experience teaching adults. Masters degree in a related field and proficiency-to-fluency in a second language desirable.

Response to each criterion should detail the experience, knowledge, training, skills and/or abilities that you possess.

  1. Describe your knowledge and experience in instructing adults
  2. Tell us about your ability and experience in preparing curriculum and course materials for adult basic education instruction.
  3. The position involves working in a very diverse, multicultural environment, and it involves working with a large number of limited and non-English speaking students and clients. Summarize your experience working with individuals from different cultures and assisting limited and non-English speaking clients as part of providing top quality instruction and customer service.

METHOD OF EVALUATION: Applicants who submit complete application packets (required application materials are listed in the “How to Apply” section below) will be evaluated on their possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attributes that have been identified as important to successful performance in the position.

OTHER INFORMATION: A flexible schedule (including evenings) is required for this position in order to meet customer needs.  Continued employment in this position is contingent upon continued funding through designated external sources.

BENEFITS: Benefits required by law will be provided. No other College-provided benefits, such as holiday pay, sick leave, annual leave, educational benefits, etc., will be offered. Employees who work twenty (20) or more hours per week for more than nineteen (19) weeks in a fiscal year are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System.
