POSITION: CHILD CARE ASSISTANT HOURLY RATE: $12.71 GRADE: A11 HOURS: 25-29 hours per week, 12 months per year JOB NUMBER: 08025APT3 CLOSING DATE: August 19, 2008, 4:45 p.m. MST CONTACT: Andrew Plucker EMAIL: andrew.plucker@pima.edu DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Child Development Centers at Pima Community College provide children three to five years of age with a quality education. In addition to serving children, the center hosts internships for college students studying early childhood education. The centers are licensed by the State of Arizona and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and centers abide by State and accreditation regulations and standards. The successful candidate will effectively assist in providing high-quality, developmental experiences, care and protection to children enrolled in the center; maintain a safe and healthy environment for preschool children; implement curriculum at the direction of the lead teacher; monitor children’s developmental and behavioral issues; inspect supplies and equipment to ensure compliance with State regulations; prepare and serve basic meals and snacks for children; participate in parent and/or community events relevant to the job; apply excellent interpersonal skills with co-workers, supervisor, parents, children and the public; maintain required documentation in accordance with State regulations and program requirements; oversee work of student interns and volunteers. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: General principles of child development; basic principles of health, nutrition, food preparation, safety and sanitation; principles of CPR/First Aid; basic record keeping principles. Ability to: Supervise children of various ages and effectively manage their behaviors; communicate effectively with children, co-workers, parents and the public to foster productive relationships; maintain a clean, safe and secure environment in accordance with State and accreditation requirements; recognize and report problems; observe and record children’s development and behaviors; prepare basic meals and snacks; maintain documentation according to State and program standards. Experience, Education and Licensing: C.D.A. certificate and one year experience in child care is preferred. Minimum of one year experience, high school diploma (or GED), and 6 college credits in early childhood education (ECE)/child development (CD) OR 30 hours of documented instruction from conferences/workshops in ECE/CD is required. For candidates without a C.D.A., completion of a C.D.A. certificate must be met by 2010 for continued employment.
Candidates must submit current First Aid and CPR certification, and must meet the State licensing requirement of 21 years of age or older. Prior to employment, the selected candidate must:
a) provide proof of attainment of 21 years of age; b) take a tuberculin screening and submit proof of negative reading; c) pass fingerprint search clearance. Physical Requirements: Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Candidate must be able to lift and carry small children as needed. OTHER INFORMATION: This is an externally-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon continued funding from designated sources.
