DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide college community services in support of the Department of Public Safety by performing limited public service and crime prevention work; supporting investigations; assisting with the enforcement of College traffic regulations and performing entry-level administrative activities. Provide effective customer service to the College community, to include students, faculty, staff, and the public. Typical tasks performed by this position include assisting Police Officers with patrol and police procedures by patrolling college properties and reporting suspicious or unsafe circumstances; locking and unlocking College facilities; answering questions and providing quality customer service; processing lost & found property; enforcing parking regulations; preparing reports or issuing citations; and assisting with administrative tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Basics of customer service principles; basics of traffic and parking control; basics of facility security. General record keeping principles; modern office procedures; basic math; spelling and grammar principles; practices of maintaining confidentiality and security of property and verbal, printed or electronic information; use of computers and pertinent computer software; basic electronic communications, to include telephone, email and two-way radio. Ability to: Exercise independent judgment and appropriate decision-making, often while working alone. Use computers and applicable computer software applications; prepare a variety of reports; prioritize work and perform multiple tasks; maintain various databases; provide quality customer service; maintain various confidential records; process lost and found property; use communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, faculty, coworkers, supervisor, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information within a diverse, multicultural community. Communicate orally and in writing in English, to include using radio communication equipment. Experience, Education and Licensing: Applicants must meet all of these minimum requirements: (1) High school graduate, or GED certificate; (2) minimum 18 years of age; (3) US citizen; (4) No felony convictions or convicted of, or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with a frequency within the past three years that indicates a disrespect for traffic laws or a disregard for the safety of other persons on the highway. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, dusts, chemicals, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
